Empowering Diversity and Inclusion: Fostering Inclusivity and Leadership Among Women Cyclists

As we pedal through the scenic routes and conquer challenging trails, it is crucial to reflect on the values that unite us and the steps we can take to foster a more inclusive and diverse cycling community. In this edition of our cycling club newsletter, let's delve into the topics of diversity and inclusion in cycling, explore how we can foster a more inclusive environment for women cyclists, and discuss essential leadership skills that can empower us on and off the bike.

Diversity in cycling is about celebrating the unique backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that each of us bring to the sport.  Creating an inclusive environment for women cyclists involves proactive efforts and a commitment to diversity. Leadership skills are crucial for women cyclists not only in organizing rides and events but also in advocating for inclusivity and driving positive change.

Read More to find out how we can promote diversity and inclusion, practical steps in fostering inclusion and the key leadership qualities to cultivate.

As women cyclists, let's continue to inspire each other, break barriers, and pave the way for a more inclusive and diverse cycling community. Together, we can pedal towards a brighter and more empowering future on two wheels.

Keep riding strong!

GII Board Member Nominations

We are looking for new club members who are dedicated to making a difference in this club by joining the leadership team.  General requirements of all board members is that they are expected to join board meetings that are scheduled at least six times per year and do whatever is reasonably required for the great of the club.  Each director can create their own subcommittee if they choose as a best way to manage the role.  Although the roles are supported by the whole board, the leaders should be self-motivated, be able to run with their positions with minimal direction, and report back to the group.  The roles that are available and a short description are as follows:

  • Ride Management: Responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining cycling routes for recreational and competitive cyclists. Your role will involve collaborating with local authorities, cycling clubs, and community organizations to create safe, enjoyable, and diverse cycling experiences. You will also oversee route logistics, signage, and promotion to enhance the overall cycling ecosystem in the region. Identify and map out cycling routes suitable for various skill levels and interests.

  • Secretary:  Take meeting minutes during board meetings and other events where leadership information is exchanged and provide typed meeting minutes. This person may also help edit club disseminated information like newsletters and emails.

If you are interested, send an email to GII Leadership at info@giibike.org.  Please include in the email your name, the position that you are interested in, and a few sentences about your ideas for the club and/or something about yourself that will help us get to know you.
