GII's 2nd Annual Backyard Boogie took place in Prince George's County, MD August 11-13, 2023.  The support grew from 2022 and we had an amazing time from the rides, fellowship, competitions, food, dancing, and races. 

Here is a recap of the exciting weekend that took place.

Cycling Clinics | Coach Brian Pace presented a clinic on using technology and supplements to train.  Matt Onojafe presented on bike matinenance tips.

10 & 20 Mile Ride | Cyclists went on a ride around the community.  The 20- mile ride included a Strava climbing challenge for an award.  

Lunch |A delicious BBQ meal was catered by RX Catering to accommodate both vegans and meat eaters including chicken, meatballs, vegan pulled meat, mac n cheese, potato salad, cheese bread, salad, baked beans, string beans, and more.  

Bike- Off | Participants competed for an award in two categories: relay races and sprints.  The relay race theme was "Getting to the ride start on time".  Riders were in teams of four and had to get through fun obstacles the fastest to win.

Boogie Ride Day

Boogie Ride | Participants selected routes from 103, 63, 46, or 25 miles.  Yes, there was  a little elevation, but nothing these riders couldn't handle. Rest stops were fully supported with snacks, beverages, and some even with bike mechanics.  Routes included Strava sprint and climbing challenges.

Lawn Party | After the ride, GII hosted the Lawn Party at Capitol Technology University. Music by DJ SinCity and live music by Suttle.  All of the guests got a chance to unwind and fellowship with the riders from differerent areas-  dance, eat, shop, and talk bikes all afternoon. 

Saturday Vendors

Food and shopping available by the local vendors on site including Spizzy, Luvplates, Monica Creates Daily, The Kneading Well, Susie's Sweets, Kings Rule Together, Wagon Wax, Cricket Wireless, Trek, Cycling Out Loud, Posh Cycling & Fitness, and BTC Jewels.

Bike Mechanic Service

Onsite mechanic services provided by Trek, Conte Bike Shop, and Jafe Cycling.

Backyard Boogie Race

GII hosted our 2nd annual USA Cycling sanctioned circuit race that was well supported with 418 registered racers.  It included categories for juniors from ages 9-18, women, men, masters, and all level races.   All men's races were SOLD OUT!  Midway through the competition, the young kids tried their hands at racing and the crowd cheered them on.

Guests were able to purchase items from Tacos R Us & More, J n B Chicken, CookieLyn Catering, Sincerely Fitness, and Manna Nutrition.

Charity Raffle
Tickets were sold to raffle away donated items.  All proceeds went to local charities.  Charity Raffle Winners were:
