GII Board Member Nominations

We are looking for new club members who are dedicated to making a difference in this club by joining the leadership team.  General requirements of all board members is that they are expected to join board meetings that are scheduled at least six times per year and do whatever is reasonably required for the great of the club.  Each director can create their own sub committee if they choose as a best way to manage the role.  Although the roles are supported by the whole board, the leaders should be self-motivated, be able to run with their positions with minimal direction, and report back to the group.  The roles that are available and a short description are as follows:

  • Communications Director: Manage the dissemination of information about the club to everyone.  This includes managing social media (Instagram and Facebook), creating newsletters, and webpage updates as needed.
  • Secretary:  Take meeting minutes during board meetings and other events where leadership information is exchanged and provide typed meeting minutes. This person may also help edit club disseminated information like newsletters and emails.
If you are interested, click HERE to send an email to GII Leadership.  Please include in the email your name, the position that you are interested in, and a few sentences about your ideas for the club and/or something about yourself that will help people to know you.  Final selections will be determined by a vote.

Upcoming Events

*Please go to the club's Meetup.com/giibike site for more information on the rides.

  • Paceline Training:  Sunday, October 1, we will have paceline training.  For all those gearing up for their 1st Seagull Century or their 10th Seagull Century, this will help you learn how to ride in a paceline and prepare for a century.  If you want to ride on Lloyd's train, he will be keeping a 17-18 mph pace.  You'll be surprised about how well you will do when you ride at a steady pace with a group sharing the load. Sign up for Paceline Training on Meetup
  • 4th Annual Purple Bike RideOn Saturday, October 7, the Office of the State's Attorney for Prince George's County is having their 4th Annual Purple Bike Ride for Domestic Violence Awareness & Prevention. This is a FREE event - please come out to support this worthy cause.  To attend you must register on Bike Reg:  PGSAO 4th Annual Purple Bike Ride
  • DMV Caribbean Ridazz Cancer Awareness Ride:  On Sunday, October 22,  DMVCR is raising money for breast cancer patients.  This is their 3rd annual cancer ride event which had great support from the local cycling community in 2022. Register here to participate: DMVCR Cancer Awareness Ride.
  • Ghost Bike Ceremony for Gregory McCullom: Join us on Sunday, October 22 for a Ghost Bike Memorial Ceremony for Gregory McCullom.  Gregory was hit and killed by an impaired driver on William Beans Rd in Upper Marlboro, MD. We are having a ceremony to pay tribute to this cyclist and help bring awareness to the dangers we face on the road. Sign up for the Ghost Bike Ceremony on Meetup.
  • All Clubs Ladies Ride:  Join us on Sunday, October 29 for our inaugural "All Clubs Ladies Ride".  The cycling community in Maryland along with some of our sister clubs in surrounding areas have come together this year to do one all clubs ladies' ride to show solidarity across all the clubs.  The theme for this year's ride will be Heart Health as heart disease kills more women than ALL forms of cancer combined and also kills more than 50,000 women of color annually.  In honor of Heart Health, we are asking all women to wear red.  Register at:  All Clubs Ladies Ride

At this time of year, because the daylight time is dwindling away, the after work weekday rides are ending.  The club will continue to host Saturday rides throughout the winter as long as the weather permits. Go to the GII Meetup page for weekly ride information.  Be sure to RSVP when you are planning to attend.
