GII’s 2nd annual Backyard Boogie Race is taking place at Melford Town Center, Bowie, MD, the same location as 2022. All are welcomed to spectate at no cost. To participate in the races, you must be a valid USA Cycling license holder. One day licenses are available to purchase. Race registration is available only at https://www.bikereg.com/60083. Racers are able to purchase tickets to the GII Backyard Boogie event at a discount (registration must match the racer's name). They will be sent an email with a discount code.

Event Notes


Registration

  • Registration fee is $40 for adults, $25 for Juniors, and free for kids. 
  • Second race registration $10 when registering at the same time as the first.
  • Masters Races are open for licensed Category 1-4 racers
  • Registration will open 60 minutes before the first race
  • There is an online registration fee of 6.25% plus a $1.25 Mid-Atlantic Bicycle Racing Association (MABRA) fee 
  • Day-of registration must be paid 30 minutes before schedule race start
  • Day-of registration fee is an additional $10 for adults and $5 for juniors and must be done online at the Bikereg website. No additional fee for second races.  No in person financial transactions even on day of.  All payment through website only.
  • Day-of registration will be done on Bikereg.com only
  • No Mail-in registration

Licenses

  • A domestic USA Cycling (USAC) license is required for all category racers.
  • Annual and Citizen (one-day) licenses will be available for sale at registration or in advance at the USAC website. Junior licenses are provided for free by USAC.
  • Your racing age is your age as of December 31, 2023.

ace Notes

  • The race course is just under 2km long, clockwise from Melford Blvd, to Science Dr and to Curie Dr.
  • This race is sanctioned by USAC under the MABRA.  USAC rules apply
  • Races with the same start times may receive separate start whistles at discretion of race promoter and officials.
  • Races with under 12 registrants may be canceled at the discretion of the race promoter
  • Lapped riders will finish on the same lap as the leaders. Racers in danger of being lapped must yield to oncoming racers.  Lapped racers may be pulled at the discretion of the officials.
  • No aero bars
  • Race events may be altered due to weather or other uncontrollable circumstances
  • All start times are estimates
  • Be sure to understand the race rule differences between a circuit race versus a criterium.  There is no wheel pit and the middle line rule is in effect.  Traffic will be able to flow in the counterclockwise direction. 
  • Junior gear restrictions will be enforced for junior racers participating in any race. 
  • Podium ceremonies will be held approximately 20 minutes after each race

Parking 

  • Parking will be available at the office buildings on Melford Blvd.  Follow the signage.

Other Notes

  • No alcohol on the premises
  • Anyone on a bicycle must be wearing a helmet
  • This race will take place rain or shine so be prepared.
